From Data to Leadership: Heidi From Fidelity's Tech Journey 🚀

In partnership with

Hey ,

In our latest Tech Ladies Talk installment, we sat down with Heidi, a Chapter Leader of Workplace Investing Digital Platforms at Fidelity Investments, to discuss her career journey, leadership insights, and how to thrive in the world of technology. Heidi’s story is a reminder that building impactful technology in the financial industry requires not just technical skills, but also empathy, curiosity, and a deep understanding of the people you're building for.

Heidi didn’t take a straight path into tech leadership. With a background in data and analytics and even a stint in the film industry as a production manager, she brings a unique blend of technical insight and people-first perspective to her current role. What drew her into management? A deep love for coaching others, a strong sense of purpose, and a desire to see more BIPOC women in leadership. “I didn’t see many BIPOC women—or women in general—in people leadership roles within tech,” she shared. “So I took the leap!”

In her role, Heidi supports a team of engineers and systems analysts building tools that help clients manage workplace benefits for their employees. She also brings a strong data protection lens to the work, combining her past in business intelligence with her current focus on software engineering leadership. One of her biggest lessons? Don't wait to be "ready." Heidi encourages women in tech to apply even if they don’t check every box. “Get comfortable being uncomfortable,” she says. “If you have half of what's required or preferred, apply and see what happens!”

She’s also a big advocate for building authentic relationships and defining success on your own terms. “When you make the effort to establish your own definition of success, much of the stress and anxiety we face professionally falls by the wayside.” For women in tech, Heidi offers actionable advice: Stay curious, speak up even when it's uncomfortable, and don’t wait to be 100% ready before going after a new role. She’s a firm believer in mentorship and encourages women to find both mentors and sponsors who can advocate for them at the table.

Heidi’s story also highlights the importance of staying true to your values while navigating the tech world. At Fidelity, she’s found a culture that supports continuous learning and a mission-driven approach to technology - apply today and you could join their culture too!
